Episode 47 – “Ancient Astronaut theorists say…”

Joined by Rob Kristofferson of the Our Strange Skies podcast, we pick apart the bane of every archaeologist’s existence: ancient astronaut / ancient alien theories. Famously popularized by The History Channel, the sensational belief that early man was not only visited by extraterrestrials, but helped us build ancient monuments, has become a phenomena both deeply fascinating as it is flagrantly unscientific. We look at a few cases, such as the origins of this theory, the pyramids (duh), the sarcophagus of King Pacal, Relic favorite: the Nazca lines, and some other cases.

Episode 14 – It Belongs in a Museum! Are You My Mummy?

Welcome to the mid-season! In this installment of Relic’s “It Belongs in a Museum” series…we get weird. Comedian and anthropologist Jake Sully tells us all about the Peking Man– the fossilized remains of an ancient, common ancestor to homo sapiens. Who was the Peking Man and where did he end up? Also, Max looks into the strange tale of the San Pedro Mummy, and journeys further down the rabbit hole into the wild world of mummified discoveries believed (by some) to be alien in origin.
